Why have I made enemies the more politically active I become?

The root is that you're attacking long-set beliefs in people's minds. To slowly change from that or learn is not easy for many, and some see you as an enemy to their society or way of living. Those kinds of people aren't worth your time anyway. All you can do is stand up for what you believe and fight for rights that should already be yours including gay marriage. Keep up with the work. :)
